O equipamento foi lan\u00e7ado em um foguete Atlas V da United Launch Alliance (UAL), uma joint venture da Boeing e da Lockheed Martin.<\/p>\n<p>A miss\u00e3o de Lucy \u00e9 uma expedi\u00e7\u00e3o de 12 anos para estudar um n\u00famero recorde de asteroides. Ser\u00e1 a primeira a explorar os chamados troianos, milhares de objetos rochosos orbitando o Sol em dois aglomerados &#8211; um \u00e0 frente do caminho de J\u00fapiter e outro atr\u00e1s dele.<\/p>\n<p>Acredita-se que os maiores asteroides troianos conhecidos, batizados em homenagem aos guerreiros da mitologia grega, me\u00e7am at\u00e9 225 quil\u00f4metros de di\u00e2metro.<\/p>\n<p>Os cientistas esperam que o sobrevoo de Lucy por sete rochas troianas forne\u00e7a novas pistas sobre como os planetas do Sistema Solar se formaram h\u00e1 cerca de 4,5 bilh\u00f5es de anos e o que moldou sua configura\u00e7\u00e3o atual.<\/p>\n<p>Lucy tamb\u00e9m far\u00e1 um voo rasante sobre um asteroide no cintur\u00e3o principal do Sistema Solar, chamado DonaldJohanson, em homenagem ao principal descobridor do ancestral humano fossilizado conhecido como Lucy.
