Como V\u00e9nus n\u00e3o tem campo magn\u00e9tico, o vento solar penetra profundamente na sua atmosfera nublada, onde quebra as mol\u00e9culas nos seus \u00e1tomos, incluindo o di\u00f3xido de carbono que constitui 96% da atmosfera.<\/p>\n<p>Altamente ionizados, esses \u00e1tomos s\u00e3o ent\u00e3o transportados pelas r\u00e1pidas correntes de vento para o lado escuro do planeta, onde se recombinam para formar novas mol\u00e9culas.<\/p>\n<p>No lado noturno, o oxig\u00e9nio \u00e9 facilmente observado na atmosfera de V\u00e9nus, mas no lado diurno a observa\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 muito mais dif\u00edcil \u2013 t\u00e3o dif\u00edcil que um artigo publicado na Nature Communications descreve como uma equipe de cientistas alem\u00e3es o fez pela primeira vez.<\/p>\n<p>Para chegar \u00e0 descoberta, os cientistas analisaram dados recolhidos pelo Observat\u00f3rio Estratosf\u00e9rico de Astronomia Infravermelha (SOFIA), um telesc\u00f3pio de joint venture entre a Nasa e a Alemanha montado dentro de um jato especial Boeing 747, com um pente de dentes finos.<\/p>\n<p>A equipe encontrou o oxig\u00eanio at\u00f4mico imprensado entre duas camadas da atmosfera nublada de V\u00eanus, a uma altitude de cerca de 60 milhas da superf\u00edcie. Abaixo, ventos com for\u00e7a de furac\u00e3o giram em torno do planeta na mesma dire\u00e7\u00e3o em que ele gira, enquanto acima dessa camada, os ventos sopram na dire\u00e7\u00e3o oposta.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Esta detec\u00e7\u00e3o de oxig\u00eanio at\u00f4mico em V\u00eanus \u00e9 uma prova direta da a\u00e7\u00e3o da fotoqu\u00edmica &#8211; desencadeada pela radia\u00e7\u00e3o UV solar &#8211; e do transporte de seus produtos pelos ventos da atmosfera de V\u00eanus&#8221;, disse o astrof\u00edsico Helmut Wiesemeyer, do Instituto Max Planck de Radioastronomia na Alemanha.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNa Terra, a nossa camada de oz\u00f4nio estratosf\u00e9rico, que protege a vida, representa um exemplo bem conhecido dessa fotoqu\u00edmica\u201d, acrescentou Wiesemeyer.<\/p>\n<p>As autoridades tamb\u00e9m descobriram que o oxig\u00eanio tem um efeito de resfriamento na atmosfera quando se recombina com outros elementos, ajudando a baixar um pouco a temperatura.<\/p>\n<p>Enquanto na superf\u00edcie V\u00eanus est\u00e1 a uma temperatura sufocante de 872 graus Fahrenheit, a press\u00e3o do ar \u00e9 equivalente a 3.000 p\u00e9s abaixo do oceano, e o pr\u00f3prio ar \u00e9 composto de uma mistura c\u00e1ustica e venenosa de \u00e1cido sulf\u00farico e di\u00f3xido de carbono; por\u00e9m, mais acima, as coisas come\u00e7am a mudar.<\/p>\n<p>Na altitude em que o oxig\u00eanio foi descoberto, os cientistas dizem que a press\u00e3o do ar, a temperatura e a composi\u00e7\u00e3o atmosf\u00e9rica s\u00e3o as mais pr\u00f3ximas daquelas observadas na Terra em compara\u00e7\u00e3o com qualquer local fora da Terra no sistema solar.
