As descobertas destacam potenciais riscos desconhecidos para a sa\u00fade associados \u00e0 polui\u00e7\u00e3o pl\u00e1stica.<\/p>\n<p>Os resultados indicam que a \u00e1gua vendida em recipientes de pl\u00e1stico pode ter uma contagem de part\u00edculas significativamente superior \u00e0s suposi\u00e7\u00f5es anteriores. Ao contr\u00e1rio de estudos anteriores centrados em micropl\u00e1sticos (1 a 5.000 micr\u00f4metros), esta pesquisa centrou-se em nanopl\u00e1sticos \u2013 com part\u00edculas menores que 1 micr\u00f4metro.<\/p>\n<p>Os nanopl\u00e1sticos na \u00e1gua engarrafada representam riscos para a sa\u00fade substancialmente maiores do que os micropl\u00e1sticos. Seu tamanho min\u00fasculo permite que entrem nas c\u00e9lulas, circulem no sangue e influenciem as fun\u00e7\u00f5es dos \u00f3rg\u00e3os.<\/p>\n<p>Eles tamb\u00e9m t\u00eam o potencial de atravessar a placenta e impactar a sa\u00fade do feto. Embora a exist\u00eancia destas part\u00edculas na \u00e1gua engarrafada seja uma preocupa\u00e7\u00e3o, a sua detec\u00e7\u00e3o permaneceu indefinida devido aos desafios tecnol\u00f3gicos.<\/p>\n<p>Para resolver o problema, a equipe de pesquisa foi pioneira em uma abordagem \u00fanica de microscopia e utilizou um algoritmo centrado em dados. Eles avaliaram 25 garrafas de um litro de tr\u00eas marcas norte-americanas de primeira linha \u2013 cujos nomes n\u00e3o foram identificados. Os dados mostraram n\u00edveis de nanopl\u00e1sticos de 110 mil a 370 mil part\u00edculas por litro, representando 90% dos res\u00edduos pl\u00e1sticos.<\/p>\n<p>Naixin Qianed , autor principal do estudo e estudante de p\u00f3s-gradua\u00e7\u00e3o em qu\u00edmica na Universidade de Columbia, ressaltou a import\u00e2ncia do estudo na compreens\u00e3o da polui\u00e7\u00e3o nanopl\u00e1stica. Beizhan Yan, coautor do estudo e qu\u00edmico ambiental da mesma institui\u00e7\u00e3o, destacou a natureza inovadora de sua pesquisa, observando que ela abriu territ\u00f3rios anteriormente desconhecidos na polui\u00e7\u00e3o pl\u00e1stica.<\/p>\n<p>O estudo identificou sete tipos de pl\u00e1stico comuns na \u00e1gua engarrafada: tereftalato de polietileno (PET) e poliamida. No entanto, tamb\u00e9m foram detectadas numerosas nanopart\u00edculas n\u00e3o identificadas, indicando potencialmente uma maior preval\u00eancia de nanopl\u00e1sticos na \u00e1gua engarrafada.<\/p>\n<p>O mundo produz mais de 450 milh\u00f5es de toneladas de pl\u00e1stico todos os anos, sendo uma quantidade consider\u00e1vel depositada em aterros sanit\u00e1rios. Embora o pl\u00e1stico seja dur\u00e1vel e possa persistir no ambiente durante muito tempo, acaba por se decompor em fragmentos mais pequenos, agravando os problemas de polui\u00e7\u00e3o. Essas part\u00edculas micropl\u00e1sticas geralmente se originam de diversas fontes, incluindo tecidos sint\u00e9ticos.<\/p>\n<p>Um estudo de 2022 revelou concentra\u00e7\u00f5es mais elevadas de micropl\u00e1sticos na \u00e1gua engarrafada do que na \u00e1gua da torneira, enquanto um relat\u00f3rio de 2021 alertou que abrir e fechar uma tampa de \u00e1gua selada com pl\u00e1stico poderia introduzir part\u00edculas de pl\u00e1stico no l\u00edquido.<\/p>\n<p>A equipe de estudo pretende expandir sua pesquisa al\u00e9m da \u00e1gua engarrafada, investigando nanopl\u00e1sticos em \u00e1gua da torneira e amostras de neve do oeste da Ant\u00e1rtica.
